School Pencils Quilt Block — Crafty Staci

Welcome to the September BOM (block of the month)! This month’s theme is Fall.

I designed this block on my computer months ago. When I started to sew it recently, I worked on it for three hours, then threw it in the trash.

I had made a couple of things weird and complicated, and not only was it frustrating to try to sew, it didn’t even work. When I redesigned and simplified it, everything went smoothly and it turned out perfectly. Back to school indeed (for me, anyway!).

There’s a really fun aspect to this block when you make a bunch of them and put them together. Check out the full quilt after the instructions!

There are also lots of other designers ready to share their version of a fall block.

As a reminder, all blocks are 12” x 12” finished (12 1/2” x 12 1/2” unfinished), so they can be put together into a quilt.

You’ll find links to all the available blocks at the end of my post each month. They can be traditionally pieced, paper pieced, appliqued, or whatever method each designer decides to use. You’ll see a little bit of everything!
