Mitski unveils two brand new songs, “Star” and “Heaven”

Last month, Mitski shared the brand new single, “Bug Like an Angel”, alongside the announcement of her forthcoming album.

Mitski worked with arranger and conductor Drew Erickson and a full orchestra at Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles to bring out the sweeping romance of these brand new songs, “Star” and “Heaven”, which respectively are evocative of a Scott Walker-inspired drone, and an Old Hollywood, Patsy Cline-swing.

Amateur Mistake: A night of intimate, acoustic performance from Mitski previewing her new album, sees the artist perform six shows across the EU/UK, including a date at London’s Union Chapel on 11 October.

The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We was recorded at both the Bomb Shelter in East Nashville and the aforementioned Sunset Sound Studios. For the first time, it felt important to Mitski to have a band recording live together in the studio. Working with her longtime producer Patrick Hyland, the album is informed by moments of noticing — noticing a sound that’s out of place, a building that groans in decay, an opinion that splits a room, a feeling that can’t be contained in a body.
